The standards have been produced as part of the government’s School food: top marks programme. The programme, launched by the Department of Education, the Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety and the Health Promotion Agency for Northern Ireland, recognises the important role schools play in contributing to childhood nutrition and in developing children’s knowledge and skills in relation to making healthier food choices. There is a poster summarising these Nutritional standards for school lunches (available here) and a companion publication, Nutritional standards for other food and drinks in schools: a guide to implementation (available here) which details the standards that should apply across the school day. The School food: top marks programme also includes the substantial nutritional resource, School food: the essential guide (available here). |
