Protecting
you and your baby. Your first antenatal visit
Published: HPA, February 2007, on behalf of the Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety (DHSSPS). This is a revised version of Protecting you and your baby. Your first antenatal visit, March 2005. |
Description: This leaflet explains about blood tests that are carried out during the first antenatal visit. The blood tests look for possible health problems, which if left undetected, could affect mother or baby. The tests screen a sample of the mother's blood for the presence of HIV, hepatitis B, syphilis and rubella and to determine her blood count/haemoglobin level and her blood group. This leaflet also contains a consent form, which should be completed by the patient during this visit. |
